Blackwater Heritage State Trail

Formerly the Whiting Naval Railway, was developed as an alternate transportation and recreation trail under the Rails to Trails Program. The trail is approximately 8.5 miles long starting in downtown Milton (across from Burger King) and runs 1.5 miles south of U.S. Highway 90 and 7 miles north to the eastern boundary of Whiting Field Naval Air Station. The trail is totally accessible for the disabled. It offers recreational opportunities for walkers, joggers, bicyclists, inline skaters and equestrian. As the trail winds it's way through urban areas of Milton it passes City Hall, Santa Rosa County Public Library, Milton Police Station and is near Carpenter Park. The trail moves into rural areas crossing over a number of branches of the Blackwater River and creeks along the way and various wildlife species may be seen. I have the pleasure of living just off the trail so safe quiet biking is near by. I have biked from my house to downtown Milton/Whataburger and further down to Burger King. If I go the other direction then it takes me to the Back Gate of NAS Whiting. Thanks for visiting!
